Unique Easter Events on the Hammock Coast

Easter signifies the official start of spring, making it a perfect time to hop over to the South Carolina coast. In regular times, Easter brings a basketful of traditional activities. These are not regular times with the pandemic, but you can still have a wonderful time celebrating the holiday while creating new traditions for your family.

With the warmer and longer days, springtime is a gorgeous season to book a coastal vacation, when you can sit beneath palms on a patio for Easter brunch or watch the kids hunt eggs. You can host your egg hunt or join the neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt & Bunny Visit on Saturday, April 3, from 2-4 p.m. at Pawleys Pavilion Park.

This year, Easter falls on April 4, the same day as the Gator Gauntlet 5K at Huntington Beach State Park. You have to admit, that’s an unusual Easter activity. This 5K race is open to all runners, joggers, walkers, dog walkers, or anyone who wants to get out and get some fresh air and exercise. As participants traverse the course through Huntington Beach, fun activity stations challenge them along the way. Watch out for the alligator, too. The race starts at 10 a.m., and registration is $25 per person in advance/$30 day of the race. All proceeds support trail maintenance and construction at Huntington Beach State Park.

If your family attends a traditional Easter service, local churches plan special services, including outside in the courtyard service at 9 a.m. at All Saints Church on Pawleys Island. Or watch the sunrise Easter morning at Pawleys Island House of Worship, a historic chapel dismantled and moved to the island in the late 1940s. The Chapel holds a service at 10 a.m. each Sunday.

Enjoy Easter brunch at Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club, which serves Southern favorites from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Or reserve a place at the Rustic Table for mini crab cakes, shrimp and grits, and comfort foods like a BLT, Monte Cristo, and silver dollar pancakes. Eggs Up Grill is another favorite in Pawleys Island with classic family dining, build-your-own-biscuits, filling bowls, and more.

In Murrells Inlet, Dead Dog Saloon at The Marshwalk serves breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday. Try their blueberry pancakes or crab omelet while enjoying a fantastic view of the marsh. The Gulfstream Cafe in Murrells Inlet offers a Sunday brunch buffet starting at 10 a.m.

While you’re enjoying the coast for Easter, relax in a tranquil setting like our 62C Downtime, three-bedroom property with a balcony view of nature. This property is perfect for a family holiday.
